#1: Why do we have to register for the event?

Registration for our event is required to receive a free book bag. Not only does this help us better manage the event but also provides us with vital information to help us serve families better in our local area. 

You may register in advance ONLINE here.  

Note: Online registration ends when we have 1,500 children pre-registered or by Friday, August 3 at 5pm.

Same-day registration will open at 9:30am at the MALL OFFICE entrance. 

CHILDREN UNDER 13 YEARS OF AGE MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENT/GUARDIAN.

Students, ages 13+, may bring their confirmation page if register online and follow the check-in process.

PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Whether you pre-register online or register at the event, your child MUST be present to receive the card to redeem for a free book bag. One bag per child, while supplies last. No exceptions will be made.

We are not responsible for lost or deleted email confirmations. 

#2: Are all of the activities free?

YES! Our Community Partners and Corporate Donors have made this a FREE event! Activities and giveaways are available while supplies last. No purchase is necessary to participate.

#4: Are there door prizes this year?

Yes! And you could be a lucky winner.

1. Check your Back2School Block Party program for a STAR sticker.

2. Show your program to the PRIZE PATROL located at the table behind the Center Court stage. 

3. Door prizes will be selected on a random basis. 

4. No purchase necessary.  No substitutions or cash value.

Here's how to enter:

1. Complete your HALL PASS by participating in key activities and visiting some of our community partners.

2. Submit your completed HALL PASS at either registration table.  (Only completed passports will be accepted.)

3. We will hold a random drawing and announce the winners on our Facebook page on Monday, August 6 at noon.

You do not have to be present to win!

#6: What free screenings are available?

#3: How do we receive a free book bag?

In 2018, we are blessed to have 2,000 book bags to distribute to students in K4-12 grades. These have been generously donated by ETA - Alpha Kappa Alpha and Healthy Blue (aka BlueChoice Medicaid). Additional community and corporate partners will be providing free information, resources and school supplies to help your child start off the coming school year. 

If you registered online, you will receive a confirmation email. Please print a copy of this email and bring it with you to the event. You may also present the email on your phone to our volunteers at the REGISTRATION - FOOD COURT. Check-in for parents who have pre-registered will begin at 9:30am.

If you did not register online, please go to the REGISTRATION - MALL OFFICE location. Same-day registration opens at 9:30am.

Once you check-in, you will receive a book bag card for each child you with you. One book bag card per child. Limit 5 per family.  The child MUST be present to receive the free book bag. SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Our volunteers will give you directions to our community partners where you will redeem your card for a free book bag.

YOU MUST PRESENT THE CARD TO RECEIVE A BOOK BAG. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Youth, ages 13+, may claim book bag without a parent but must have the redemption card.

Quantities are limited. Book bags not claimed by 1:30pm will be released to open distribution. 

 There are free screenings including:  

• Heart Age screening with Piedmont Medical Center 

This includes a check of your cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and risk factors for heart disease. Open to women and men, ages 18+.  FASTING IS REQUIRED (minimum 6 hours).  Water or black coffee prior to screening is acceptable. 

You will receive your results immediately and PMC staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. In about two weeks, you will receive your Heart Age in the mail.

• Blood pressure checks with York County Free Clinic

Not fasting but would still like to have your blood pressure checked?  Open to women and men, ages 18+.

• Body Fat Check with North Central Family Medical Center

One of the best predictors of heart disease is not just your BMI but also your waist measurement. Get a body fat check!

Dental Screenings for kids with Colgate Dental Van &     

A Healthy Smile - located in Food Court Parking Lot

Good dental health is vital to a healthy heart. Make sure you take advantage of these free screenings!

Vision Screenings with Tega Cay Lions Club & America's Best Eyecare

Ensuring good vision is key to a successful school year. The Tega Cay Lions Club and America's Best are teaming up to offer free basic eye exams to help identify children or parents with vision problems. Don't miss your free screening!
